Safety Awareness Training Module
Scope
This training module reviews general radiation safety topics:
· Use and storage of radioactive material procedures
· Health protection problems associated with exposure to radiation and radioactive material
· Location of radioactive material licenses, state regulations and radiation safety manuals
· Risk of radiation exposure to the embryo and fetus
· Precautions or procedures to minimize exposure
· Purpose and functions of protective devices
· Reporting unusual occurrences that may involve exposure to radiation
· Emergency procedures
· Radiation exposure reports
Requirement
All university and hospital staff, undergraduate and post-graduate students, contractors, and consultants who work in or whose duties may require them to work in areas were radioactive materials are used or stored are required to complete this training module.
This module must be conducted before an individual can commence work with radioactive material or before the individual begins the performance of their duties requiring access to any portion of an area where radioactive material is used or stored.
To fulfill this requirement, new personnel are required to read this training module, sign the Statement of Initial Training, and return the form to the Office of Radiation Safety.
